cat pee on floor –
don’t ask me
how I know

all along main street
help wanted signs
at the restaurants

east of the city
smoke becomes the horizon
and the sky

closer than the stars
red running light glints
off the main rotor

cat-sitting –
one cat no longer
falls for treat trick

beneath the streetlight’s
purple gleam
the snow deepens

neighbors’ Christmas lights
greet the dawn

lazy afternoon –
cat watches
zoo program

cold front arrives –
wind flicks something loose
against my window

strong north wind
inflatable penguin
bobs stiffly
