tips rain-water bowl
for a drink

misty night –
possum crosses
in front of me

muggy night –
possums replace
raccoons on porch

early autumn –
seeing my breath
as I chide a possum

freezing rain –
possum investigates
back porch

city life –
one night a fat possum
tonight four raccoons

white line at road’s edge –
dead possum lies
in its own blood

back porch noise –
small possums
stare back at me

watching the dog
watching the possum
playing possum

warm night cools
possum stink
wafts in through window
