raccoon ahead of me
on the sidewalk

nearly midnight –
spare cat growls
at something she’s treed

on both sides
of midnight
fireworks

all the clocks are wound –
as eager to hear midnight
as Quasimodo

midnight storm —
cat uses shoe
as a pillow

after midnight —
panoramic thunderstorm
through the new windows
