doctor visit
second time’s the charm
for blood draw

a migraine a day
is no way
to write haiku

dog days –
calling the outdoor cat in
where it’s cool

cooler night –
katydids compete
with sirens

storm arrives –
raccoon tracks
across the porch

dark low clouds and sun –
grass grows over
prairie dog mounds

one, two
threefourfive kits
then the mother raccoon

alone –
heart-shaped
rubber band

driving home –
new paint job
hides friend’s house

behind the trees
a nimbus of faux lightning –
fireworks show
