three raccoons meld
back into the darkness

in lieu of her
missing wedding ring
a mood ring

thirty years later
small college town and I
both somewhat larger

steakhouse party –
birthday boy gets skateboard
for carryout

reclaiming lost joy
after the divorce –
carrot cake

white-knuckle flier
scared enough for us both
I relax

like the bad old days
angry men rattle
atomic sabers

veterinarian –
one little dog yaps
one little dog craps

by the auto shop
heavy traffic
in prairie dog village

chocolate lab
sweet on passenger
in pickup
