unseasonably
warm winter’s day –
hot tea anyway

stuffed panda
left facedown
near the curb

after Christmas
torn wrapping paper
skims the ground

last snow of year
first snow of year
same clouds

Newtown –
Rachel still weeps
for her children

everywhere
the familiar faces
of strangers

chilly breeze –
still hugging herself
after coming inside

prairie dogs
build their village
near Home Depot

on the shelves
marked “Bibles”
Harry Potter books
