snatching the paper
off the front porch –
winter rain

winter night
lovesick cat yowls
outside my window

chill morning
cardinal hops
along a low branch

four chirps –
light snowfall
begins

snow cover
cloud cover
bright night

four meows –
cat prints
in the snow

aircraft engine
pulses overhead –
silent night again

New Year’s Eve –
2020 going out
with loud bangs

winter sunrise –
pavement looks
deceptively safe

waiting outside
emergency vet –
cold hands
